The official Wimbledon Rematch 1980 highlights film is here. In summer 2019, sport lovers and immersive experience enthusiasts travelled back four decades to re-live one of the greatest tennis tournaments of all time – The Championships, Wimbledon 1980.
Marking the All England Club’s first ever public event outside of staging The Championships, attendees were transported back to experience the distinctive culture and lifestyle of the era.
Wimbledon Rematch Films
1980 was not only a pivotal year at Wimbledon, but for the country. Watch our mini-series to learn about Borg and McEnroe’s rivalry, and the build up to what has become known as one of the greatest matches in history.
EPISODE 1
Roll up, roll up. It’s 26 May 1980, and the countdown to Wimbledon Rematch is on. Mount St Helens has erupted, Gloria Vanderbilt is tackling fashion, and Evonne Goolagong is preparing for Roland-Garros.
EPISODE 2
The countdown to Wimbledon Rematch continues. The Rubik’s Cube launches, Russia is confident Great Britain will play a part in the Summer Olympics, and McEnroe is eliminated from Roland Garros.
EPISODE 3
In edition 3, Andrea Jaeger becomes Wimbledon’s youngest seed, a schoolboy opens the Dartford tunnel and Wimbledon strawberries hit 75p a portion!

It’s 29 June 1980 and Wimbledon is in full swing.
